William M. Addington

Bro. William Montreville Addington

William Montreville Addington was born to Henry Addington (1789-1878) and wife Mary Weaver (1795-1859). He was raised in Macon County, North Carolina.

At the start of the Civil War, William was Quartermaster of 1st North Carolina Cavalry Regiment, Co. K, and he ended the war with the rank of Captain.

It is not known what brought William M. Addington to Lavonia, Georgia, nor is it known (for the moment) when he joined the Masonic fraternity, but he was a member and officer of Lavonia Lodge at its inception. In the first entry of minutes (February 14, 1890) for Lavonia Lodge, then operating under dispensation, Bro. Addington, though absent, was listed as the Senior Warden. Upon the constitution of the Lodge later that year, and its subsequent election for 1891, Bro. Addington was duly elected as Senior Warden.

In the minutes of June 29, 1894, the death of Bro. Addington was announced to the Lodge and a committee assigned to draft a resolution of respect. Sadly, we don't yet have a copy of this resolution.

Brother William Montreville Addington was buried in the First United Methodist Church Cemetery in Franklin, North Carolina among his family and friends.
